I need to breathe somewhere close to my chest
where the pillows can't reach me
with their quills pointing
I need to feel something akin to quiet
but as I type the word, it feels foreign
a land beyond my ken
I had a dream not too long ago
about breath
moving through soundlessly
a vision
rather than a cue
sifted in light
The end of a year and the beginning of another one. I feel the closing of doors behind me, a certitude of endings of some sort. And I pause for a moment and hold my breath before I left it leave me.

a quiet, beautiful land you light here. many blessings to you in 2014:)
ReplyDeleteThank you ed! And thank you for finding this little blog of mine
ReplyDeleteyou know...there are def years i have been happy to leave behind...one last breath to close the door on the chaos that was and look hopeful toward the new for a bit of peace....
ReplyDeleteOh me too Brian! Thank you and happy new year to you!
DeleteIt is a bit eerie, sometimes to concentrate on one's breathing, I think. Perhaps even moreso if one feels the connection and continuation between breathing from one year into the next. Breath is definitely soundless, but can be felt on so many different levels.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary--singing makes me so very aware of the breath--happy new year to you
DeleteSifted in light... Such a beautiful, ethereal image... Just perfect to leave a year behind with. Here's to a wonderful 2014!

ReplyDeleteHello Pat! Thank you!
DeleteThe dream sounds like that needed reminder to watch our breath even if only for a little bit to find that quietness that we need each day.
ReplyDeleteThank you Robyn!
DeleteI feel this way each New Year's Eve but then I remember this moment is all we have. The past is gone, the future unwritten, but this moment is real. Very nice job with this lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Debi!
DeleteNicely spun!
ReplyDeleteI loved the feeling and atmosphere you create especially with your stanza:
"I need to feel something akin to quiet
but as I type the word, it feels foreign
a land beyond my ken"
Cheers!
Thank you Delaina!
DeleteAudrey, those opening lines are just so exquisite. Wonderful writing.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteA lovely poem. I enjoyed reading this a lot. I've had a quite dreadful year in '13, so I'm looking forward to what comes in '14.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteTo pause for a moment; to visualize, not just feel, that breath. A transition of life so to speak; a transition from old to new, a pause, a reflection.Out with the old, in with the new. I love this as contemplation of change to the new year. WELL captured, indeed!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ginny!
Deletethere's def. some kind of in between between the closing of the door and opening another... wishing you a wonderful 2014
ReplyDeleteHappy New year Claudia!

DeleteMy grandchildren have been distracting me away from the computer. I truly missed this gem. You write like we breathe; giving life quite naturally.
